What happens to our meek six legged friends?
A rise in insect contiousness will bring our rein to an end
We've always feared they'd organize and fight
Now the beetles rub their mandibles and the wasps are taking flight

I always knew they'd be the next in the line
It's horrific change but that happens all the time
I always knew they'd be the next in line
As fallen kings we go the way of dinosaurs and whine

A volcano of bugs is erupting in the distance
A black wave of exoskeletons is stripping flesh from bone
Some stand and fight with insecticide or a rolled up New York Times
but the ones who try to run and hide are the last in line to die

A roiling mass is closing on the distance
A mosquito cloud as black as coal obliterates the light
One final thought occures to me as I'm deafened by the whine
We were just another stop along the evolutionary vine

The ruins of Portland still exist in the shadow of the palace of ants
Web spinners build the canopies under which their empires thrive
Somewhere a lone dung roller is hard at work apon a wheel
While the lightening bugs unleash a spark and set fire to the fields
