Nightmare

Drifting off to sleep at night
Just seconds ago you turned off the light
The bottom drops out on another day
The room around you starts to fade
to the place you go when the moon is out
It calls you home with a distant shout
You hit the streets and your quite alive
Those voices are screaming it's time to drive

Wake up securely in your bed
those dreams from last night still in your head
The blood and the fire confuse your nose
the smell of a wreck still in your cloths
You crawl out of bed turn on the tube
That hit and run killer's in the news
some psychotic freak in a stolen car
but this time there's pictures of who you are

Tonight it's a semi with platinum smoke stacks
and your doctor is there telling you to relax
while in a crowded night plaza the dead pile in stacks!

So the nightmare is you!
I suppose there's not much you can do
There's a murderous brute not so deep down below
When your lights go out guess who's running the show

To me all this comes as no surprise
Consider the things you feed your mind
a pool of darkness deep and wide
the glamour of theft and homicide
those games that awaken the lizard inside

What Nietche once said it still rings true
"Stare in the abyss and it stares in too."

Driving your Max on through cattle on tracks
by the horror in their eyes your still taken aback
and the pressure is mounting your starting to crack
but this train must go through and there's no turning back!

When the nightmare is you
there's really not much you can do
